All-ceramic restorations

All-ceramic crowns, bridges and fillings

On this page

All-ceramic material is especially similar to the structure of natural tooth enamel: it is slightly translucent and allows light to penetrate into the deeper layers of the tooth. Even so, all-ceramic crowns are still not the standard solution. Crowns and bridges with a metal framework underneath are often used instead. This can disturb the natural passage and refraction of light, so the tooth looks greyish and less lifelike. In addition, if the gums recede, a dark crown margin often becomes visible unless the ceramic veneering extends beyond the margin.

Thanks to modern materials, bridges can now even be made entirely of all-ceramic. They blend seamlessly into the row of teeth and are hard to tell apart from real teeth, even for a trained eye. Ceramic fillings are also an aesthetically pleasing and durable solution. Unlike amalgam or composite fillings, they match the natural tooth colour perfectly and are particularly well tolerated.

Perfect aesthetics and high functionality

A major advantage of all-ceramic material is its outstanding aesthetics. It matches the natural tooth in transparency and light transmission, creating a harmonious overall appearance.

But the material is convincing in more than looks: while dental restoration materials containing metal can trigger allergic or toxic reactions, all-ceramic restorations are biologically harmless. Patients receive a solution that is optimal both aesthetically and functionally, without health risks.

Ceramic fillings are also an ideal choice for smaller defects or tooth decay. They offer high stability and, unlike composite fillings, do not discolour. As a result, the natural aesthetics of the tooth are preserved in the long term.

Zirconia – high-tech ceramic for the highest demands

Zirconia, a particularly resilient ceramic material, has already proven itself in industry and opens up new possibilities in dentistry as well. It offers an exceptional combination of strength, stability and aesthetics, even in the heavily loaded area of the back teeth.

  • Advantages of zirconiaBiocompatibility: Zirconia is tissue-friendly, insoluble and shows no known allergic reactions. Its low thermal conductivity ensures high wearing comfort and prevents unpleasant temperature sensitivity.
  • High stability and durability: With a flexural strength of over 1,300 MPa and high fracture toughness, zirconia remains extremely stable even in delicate restorations.
  • Natural aesthetics: The perfect colour match with the natural teeth makes zirconia crowns and bridges almost invisible.

Thanks to these outstanding properties, all-ceramic restorations – zirconia in particular – are the optimal choice for patients who value aesthetics, tolerability and durability. Anyone who relies on the highest quality and professional advice is welcome to ask our ZahnFine team – your dentist in Krefeld – about the best options for all-ceramic restorations at any time.
